Gopal Prasad Rimal

Gopal Prasad Rimal (September 23, 1918 – October 16, 1973) was a revolutionary Nepali poet who used his poetry as a weapon against social injustice and political oppression. Born in Kathmandu, Rimal was deeply influenced by the communist movement and wrote poems that championed the cause of the working class. His most famous poem 'Jhyanakari' (Portrait) is considered a masterpiece of Nepali literature. Rimal was imprisoned for his political activities and his poetry was banned during the Panchayat era. Despite facing persecution, he continued to write and is remembered as one of the most important voices of dissent in Nepali literary history.
