Biography
Michel Aflaq (1910-1989) was a Syrian philosopher, sociologist, and Arab nationalist who co-founded the Ba'ath Party in 1947. Born in Damascus to a Greek Orthodox Christian family, he developed the ideology of Arab unity, freedom, and socialism that became the guiding principles of Ba'athist governments in Syria and Iraq. He served as Secretary General of the Ba'ath Party until his death.
