Mir-Hossein Mousavi

Mir-Hossein Mousavi, born on March 2, 1942, in Khameneh, Iran, is an Iranian reformist politician, architect, and painter who served as Prime Minister of Iran from 1981 to 1989 — the last person to hold this position before it was abolished. He was the presidential candidate of the reformist movement in the 2009 election, which was officially won by Ahmadinejad. The disputed results sparked the Green Movement, the largest protest movement in Iran since the 1979 revolution. Mousavi, along with his wife Zahra Rahnavard, has been under house arrest since 2011 without trial. He remains a symbol of Iran's reformist movement and continues to be a prominent opposition figure despite his detention.
